Dale Vail - Musical Director
Appointed as Musical Director in 2024, Dale Vail leads the Holroyd Brass Band with a focus on performing innovative new works and building strong cultural ties throughout the Western Sydney community.
A highly accomplished trombonist, he brings top-tier professional and competitive experience to the podium. He moved to Sydney to perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 2019 to 2021, and actively freelances with Australia's premier ensembles, including the Opera Australia Orchestra. His brass band pedigree is equally formidable; he spent five years playing with Wellington Brass as they secured both the New Zealand and Australian National Championships, culminating in a tour to the UK to compete in the prestigious British Open.
Having begun his own musical journey in the Woolston Youth Brass Band in Christchurch, he is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of musicians. Alongside his work with Holroyd, he conducts the Willoughby Youth Brass Band and commands a large teaching studio across The King's School, Ashbury Public School, and his private practice. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance and Composition, and a Master of Music from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).
